Whether it’s a brightly designed, aesthetically pleasing place to work; a space equipped with a kitchen; 24/7 access to an office required; or just a space to create amongst others, co-working is the new trend making freelance life a little less lonely. Even small businesses with one, two or a small handful of employees are forgoing independent offices for the casual and convivial atmosphere of co-working spaces. Between small start-ups, budding entrepreneurs and talented freelancers making waves in the business world, here are some of Dublin’s best desks and co-working spaces where they operate.

Fumbally Exchange

Fumbally Exchange (FEx) is a not-for-profit movement of creative and innovative professionals who share co-working spaces with three hubs currently in operation: Dublin city centre, Balbriggan (North County Dublin) and Waterford city centre. The aim is to cultivate an open, professional atmosphere for creative and regenerative growth and there are more hubs in the plans for the future. FEx HQ currently sits in an impressive four-storey building at 5 Dame Lane in Dublin 2. Opened in 2013, it offers 60 desks across the top two floors, both of which are open-plan work spaces flooded with natural light. There are plenty of meeting rooms and break-out areas with a generous kitchen area too.

tcube

Arguably the most central co-working space in the city, tcube is situated on 8-9 Westmoreland Street, Dublin 2, right in the middle of the city and equidistant between Grafton and Henry Street. Pearse, Tara and Connolly stations are all within walking distance whilst the Luas will offer its service with a stop almost right outside the door by the end of the year. With all the expected amenities it also has a concierge-manned reception and spacious meeting rooms.  Its services are offered from as little as €20 an hour up to €195 per month.

The Brickhouse

A unique co-working space from Iconic Offices, The Brickhouse is located within Clanwilliam Court on Mount Street, just a few moments from Dublin’s Silicon Docks. Newly-opened in 2017 and already home to business innovators, enterprising pioneers, progressive freelancers, spirited start-ups and multi-nationals, it offers flexible workspaces for up to 350 members. Sitting in the heart of the city’s Central Business District, it’s got great transport links too and lots of shops, restaurants, hotels and bars nearby. The Brickhouse offers a range of coworking options to members from private offices, dedicated and floating desks to meeting rooms and event space. A couple of hours from €49 +VAT a month right up to the premium packages for dedicated desks and office spaces from €449 + VAT per month.

CoCreate

CoCreate sits on both sides of the Liffey with properties at 57 Lower Gardiner Street in Dublin 1 – within earshot of Dublin Connolly station and a stone’s throw from The Spire and O’Connell Street – and 27 Camden Street Lower, Dublin 2. From €100 for a five-day hotdesk package right up to €1000 a month for a dedicated office space, there are lots of different ways you can use the space as and when you need it.

Tara Building

One of the most high-profile recent co-working openings has been Tara Building, which is described as ‘a home for those that want to plug into a community of driven, professional individuals and organisations’. Located on Tara Street, Tara Building is a space for creative energy to be translated into impactful, exciting work. One of the plushest co-working spaces the city has to offer, the sleek design of the building include all the amenities a freelancer would need. There are even shower facilities too if you go for a lunchtime jog or cycle commute to work as well as a telephone answering service for an additional fee.
